Our approach
Art provides visual, tactile and sensory experiences and is a unique way of understanding and responding to the world. Children use colour, form, texture, pattern, different materials and processes to communicate what they see, feel and think. They explore ideas and meaning in the work of artists as well as learning how to understand, appreciate and enjoy art. Visits are made by artists to provide first hand experiences. Each year the academy has an Arts Week when each child completes a piece of artwork for display in a school exhibition. Our 2018 Arts Week had a theme of "trees", to celebrate moving to our new building and its place in the park, and we used the series of Tinga Tinga created by each class to decorate our school. In Summer 2019 we selected "Our City" as the topic and each class has created a printed work celebrating London or Acton. Have a look in school to see some of the stunning individual pieces by the children.
