Ark Byron Primary Academy is committed to healthy eating and all pupils have a hot school lunch which is prepared onsite every day by our in-house chef and her team.
All meals are low in sugar, fat and salt and are rotated on a two weekly basis. We can usually cater for special dietary needs. Packed lunches are only allowed if medical reasons (accompanied by a doctor's recommendation) mean that a hot school meal is not suitable. Choices of food are not offered because we believe that children should be encouraged to sample new foods and develop their tastes.
We have a team who support the teaching team at lunchtimes. Promoting good table manners is important to our lunchtimes.
NB We are a nut free school.
Our chef (Miss Bridget Walker) has devised some delicious menus. Please see below menus for the Autumn term.
Ordering and payments
Lunches are provided free of charge for all children in Reception to Year Six due to funding provided by the Greater London Authority.
A vegetarian option is always available and the kitchen is usually able to cater for special dietary/medical needs if given advance notice – please contact the school office so we can help you organise this if necessary.

Applying for free school meals
While all primary-aged children in London are currently eligible for school meals at no charge, some families are entitled to free school meals (FSM) based on certain criteria. When a child is registered for free school meals, the school receives additional funding called the Pupil Premium. This extra funding is specifically used to improve educational resources and support for students who need it most. Even though meals are already provided for free, registering for FSM helps ensure that the school can access the funding it needs to better support children's education.
Therefore, it's important to register for FSM if your child is eligible, as it helps the school provide more resources and improve the learning experience for all students.
